Special Issue: Plant BioDesign Hub

The Science Partner Journal BioDesign Research is now considering submissions for its first special issue: Plant BioDesign Hub.

Scope

The rational design of proteins, once considered a myth, is becoming a reality as efforts to produce proteins with desired functional properties and different folds, including new ones, have been increasingly successful. The goal of this special issue is to provide an overview of the various factors and adjacent areas of science contributing to these advancements, to yield insights on the lessons learned from the successes and failures along the way and assess where the field stands today and the promise it holds for the future.

Contributions on the following topics will be welcome:

1.De-novo design of soluble proteins with novel folds and function
2.De-novo design or re-design of membrane-bound proteins
3.Re-design of natural proteins for novel applications
4.Computational approaches including AI-Deep Learning methods to rational protein design
5.Evolutionary approaches to rational protein design
6.Design of enzymes with novel catalytic function
7.Design of protein segments and peptides with specific functions
8.Rational design of protein assemblies and nanomaterials
9.Design of protein using minimalist sequences

Both research articles and reviews dealing with these topics will be considered. Authors wishing to submit a review are invited to first inquire with the Special Issue Editor (Shoshana Wodak: Shoshana.wodak@vub.vib.be).

Articles published in the special issue will be highlighted at the annual International BioDesign Research Conference, held every fall. The 1st International BioDesign Research Conference was held virtually in December 2020; this successful conference attracted more than 20,000 registrants and featured more than 60 world-renowned experts.

Submission Deadline

Submissions are open now and will close Mar 31, 2022. All submitted papers will be peer reviewed and published after acceptance. All article processing charges (APCs) for papers will be waived. Published papers will be collectively placed in a virtual special issue.
